Leaf Peepers

Our New Hampshire stop was dedicated to leaf peeping (looking at the vibrant yellow, orange, and red fall leaves that Autumn is known for). New England is especially beautiful during this time of year, and New Hampshire was the picture of Fall. The first night we were at our campground, the girls and I walked down to the lake and saw the most stunning colors. The still water was reflecting the tree colors, and it was a really gorgeous sight.

We stayed at Danforth Bay Camping Resort in Freedom, NH. I liked the name of the town, and the campground was one of the best that we’ve been to so far. The sites were big, and there were lots of trees and plenty of space between campers. They had a nice camp store, canoe/kayak rentals, a truly picturesque setting, and lots of activities. There was an RV show and ice cream social the last day we were in town.

The highlight of our time in New Hampshire was a drive over to North Conway and the White Mountain National Forest, where we took the Kancamagus Scenic Highway. This 34-mile loop runs alongside the Swift River, and there are lots of overlooks, trails, and other attractions along the route.

Not far from the scenic highway, back in Conway, we came across (well, drove across) a covered bridge. Though we saw quite a few when in Madison County, Iowa, I am always enamored by them. This was the Saco River Bridge, originally constructed in 1850, but reconstructed more than once over the years. And it was shriek-worthy for me, when we were just driving along, and I realized we were about to cross a covered bridge.

We only spent three days in New Hampshire, but my leaf peeping days are far from over!
