Grand Teton National Park

Technically, we had already been to Wyoming, having visited Yellowstone. But, we camped in Montana and drove into Wyoming for that, and our goal is to camp in each of the lower 48 states. So, we made a Wyoming stop for three nights in a little town called Boulder (population 75). It’s really close to Pinedale, WY (population 2,000+), whose town slogan is “Pinedale – All the Civilization you Need!” They have a few restaurants, a handful of shops, a grocery store that’s connected to a hardware store, and a couple of parks. They also have some pretty stunning lakes in the area. We spent one day dining at a local spot (The Wrangler Café) and then checking out the scenery in Pinedale.

Since we were not too very far from Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park, we spent another day looking for wildlife in that area. We weren’t lucky enough to spot a moose, which is what I’d hoped for, but we did see plenty of pronghorn. I didn’t get any pictures of them, as they were too far off for it to be worth it. We also saw a deer, who was very used to people, at the trailhead of the hike we took.

We hiked in the Jenny Lake area at Teton in hopes of seeing some wildlife, but I think it might have been too hot for them to be out. Other than a couple of beavers, nothing else was in sight. We did see some gorgeous views of the mountains and water. Despite the complaints, the girls made the 5.2 miles roundtrip and were happy to be back at the truck when it was all said and done.

We had to stop in Jackson to get a picture with the antlers on the way back to Boulder. It’s a pretty cool sight: elk antler arches that mark the entrance to the Jackson Town Square.

We have plans to stop in Wyoming again between Colorado and Nebraska. We have a planned stop in Cheyenne. Maybe another rodeo?
