Government Island

A week or so ago, after living in Stafford, VA for two years, we finally went up the road to see what Government Island was all about.

Back in the day, this was the rock quarry where Aquia sandstone was retrieved and then sent up river to build the U.S. Capitol and the White House (and some other historic buildings in Washington, D.C.)  Today, it’s a 17-acre park and a great place to take a nature walk. Though our kids enjoy griping any time they are asked to walk (you see, their legs are tired, it is hot, and anything described as a park should include a playground), we did enjoy our time once they realized the complaining was not going to deter us.

Also, the dogs thought this place was Heaven on earth. It wore them out pretty good!
